The Black Sleep by Hearts Alive

You Are The Rat

by Hearts Alive· from The Black Sleep

The walls bear down on me, I'm getting choked. The way ahead is laid out and I run. I try to break through the thick veil of noxious smog. The breath of men dying that stings my eyes and burn my lungs. I will not break! These lives that surround me, holding me back. They are clawing at my will to run free. I would give it all now for just one shot. To feel the sun on my face and I wouldn't mind if I go blind. The rats scatter beneath my feet. Light bulbs shatter behind my back. There's no turning around, as I set my path ahead. I must feel real ground, to have my peace of mind. Breathe clean air for once. Lest I asphyxiate. I will not break! I run to reach the end of my road. I will leave you to die in your own filth. I will leave you to die in your own filth. And not look back at the ruins I leave behind. I will walk with bare feet on shattered glass. To reach my goal and I hope to see clear skies at the end of my road. The rats scatter beneath my feet. Light bulbs shatter behind my back. There's no turning around, as I set my path ahead. I must feel real ground, to have my peace of mind. Breathe clean air for once. Lest I asphyxiate.
