Lock Up

by Four Hundred Years· from Signal

Crime is almost always committed by people who feel they have no other options or are ignorant to their options. Instead of spending our tax dollars on health care, education, food and housing, the weapons that could really wage a war on crime, we spend it on building more prisons. In fact the U.S. has the highest imprisonment rate in the world with well over 1,000,000 people in lock up. These people are not being reformed in prison where education programs are continually cut and conditions are increasingly brutal. Without education there is no understanding, without understanding there is no freedom. We make the same mistakes When will we get it right Let this be the last time We take more than freedom, we take away all hope You want a war on crime It starts in the mind It won?t be the first time We don?t feel the flames until we?re up in smoke Still think the problems theirs? Someone tell me What did we think we were wiping away It?s not a life There?s not reform if we can?t educate Who calls the shots? (Dead time leaves nothing progressed)
